Two techniques conventional ECT and ECA are used for weld testing.
ECT techniques is performed on:
- a longitudinal weld/circumferential weld
- a fillet weld
- a T-joint area
These types of flaws could be detected by eddy current testing:
- transverse/longitudinal crack
- radiating crack
- crater crack
- group of disconnected cracks
- branching cracks
- damage after grinding
- undercut
- surface pore in the form of a single pore of a group of pores
- overflow cover layer
- lack of penetration
- interpass undercut
